All courses provided by SPS/HGTG are based on real world mission skills as developed through actual service in Military and Civilian Police operational environments.  SPS/HGTG recognizes that traditional training and tactics must be adjusted contemporarily for the ever-shifting terrorist threats throughout the world.

SNIPER TRAINING

LEVEL I SNIPER

Level I Sniper is a 5-day basic sniper course for the newly assigned sniper or for the sniper who wants to sharpen his / her basic tactical skills.  The basic elements of Marksmanship, Fieldcraft and Tactics are used as a foundation for building the skills of the sniper.

LEVEL II SNIPER

Level II Sniper is an advanced sniper course that builds upon the skills taught in Level I Sniper.  The sniper will study operational concepts based upon historical operational data and will build skills accordingly.  Level II Sniper takes the sniper outside his traditional comfort zone and works toward building skills in non-traditional shooting positions, urban hide building and advanced skills.

LEVEL III SNIPER – Leadership, Training and Utilization of Snipers

Level III Sniper is designed for those who lead and command snipers.  This course is tailored to the senior sniper and to the tactical commander and team leader who must make informed decisions in the field.  This three-day course deals with selection and training of snipers as well as policy, practice and operational concepts.  The course culminates in a live-fire shooting event where snipers, team leaders and commanders shoot together in a live-fire demonstration.

LEVEL IV SNIPER – Mixed Terrain Target Interdiction & Close Team Support

Level IV Sniper is a stand alone course that concentrates on mobile sniper tactics to combat current real world terrorist threats.  This 5-day course takes the sniper out of the Post-Vietnam era training model and stresses modern concepts based on current threats from around the globe.  Snipers will work with the sniper weapon system, light rifle system and handgun throughout this grueling course.

Sniper Night Vision Operator – Movement, Recon and Engagement                       NEW FOR 2023

SNVO is a low-light operations course centering on the skills needed by Tier 1 and 2 SWAT Snipers in the use of night vision devices.  The course will feature both the use of monocular and binocular helmet mounted devices, but will center around the deployment  and use of the weapon mounted clip-on NVD for snipers.   The use of IR and visible lasers will also be covered.


DESIGNATED MARKSMAN

LAW ENFORCEMENT DESIGNATED MARKSMAN   (LEDM)    (LAW ENFORCEMENT ADVANCED RIFLE)       

Law Enforcement Designated Marksman is a 4-day, 32-hour course designed to train the uniformed patrol officer to high higher level of marksmanship.  The course is a program builder that will provide the advanced marksmanship skills and tactics training necessary for those officers who will help provide the bridge between the response of patrol officers and a full tactical response by SWAT.  As we know, SWAT responses can take up to an hour to organize in most agencies, but on-duty patrol officers equipped and trained to interdict threats can make the difference swiftly.

This course will require a specialized weapon system.  Contact SPS/HGTG for details and course information.

LAW ENFORCEMENT DESIGNATED MARKSMAN   (LEDM)    TRAIN-THE-TRAINER (T3)

The LEDM T3 Course is a custom course designed to provide  agencies with the training and materials to teach the LEDM internally and self-sustain an ongoing DM program.  SPS/HGTG will provide the T3 program to select vetted members of the client agency.  Client agency will be provided a curricula license to utilize SPS/HGTG Training Materials for presentation to agency members.  SPS/HGTG will provide a comprehensive assessment and proposal to agencies upon request.


SWAT Operator 1

The Basic SWAT Operator course is a 55-60 hour course of instruction in the basic skills required of a SWAT Operator.  We provide a contemporary basic approach to training that will enhance the new operator’s capabilities without inducing training scars that will inhibit his operational ability to integrate into his own team and learn the team’s tactics.   We provide a highly skilled and experienced cadre of instructors and contemporary SWAT operators to facilitate superior training and guide the success of the participants.  The course follows best practice recommendations of the National Tactical Officer’s Association 2018 SWAT Standards and requires preparatory study, pre-test and physical standards for successful completion.  This course is taught as a custom  course for client agencies, teams, or regional associations.

CLOSE TEAM SUPPORT – Tactical Skills Integration for S.W.A.T.

Close Team Support is a 3 to 4 day (dependent upon team size) course typically conducted for a single SWAT Team.  The course teaches a blending of tactical skills based to address both typical and atypical missions.  The course particularly stresses the integration of assaulters and snipers and brings the two disciplines together for an effective unsiloed mobile tactical response.


SPECIAL OPERATIONS SUSTAINMENT TRAINING for S.W.A.T. TEAMS & SNIPER SECTIONS

SWAT Teams and Sniper Sections constantly struggle with the logistics of providing outside training to their members.  Due to budget, operations and agency staffing, this requires a rotation of personnel out to courses over time.  SPS/HGTG will work with the Agency/Team/Sniper Section to bring a custom course of instruction to your agency.  This can be done at off-site locations acquired by the agency or SPS or can be done at the agency using local resources.  SPS will provide one of our courses, modify an existing course to match the capabilities of the client or develop a custom course of training for your staff.  This begins with needs assessment and ends with your team receiving training designed specifically for them.


LAW ENFORCEMENT INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

LAW ENFORCEMENT FIREARMS INSTRUCTOR (LEFI)

This 5-day, 40-hour course is designed to provide training in theory and practice to those officers who will be assigned as Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors.  The course will address the fundamentals of shooting and tactics as well as providing instruction for biomechanic and ergonomic theory as it pertains to firearms instruction.  Shooters will work with duty handguns and shotguns as well as off-duty and backup handguns.  Trainees will receive a Firearms Instructor Starter Kit valued at over $150.00 that includes:

  • Range Bag
  • Assorted Training Aids

This course has been approved by the Tennessee POST Commission


LAW ENFORCEMENT RIFLE INSTRUCTOR (LERI)

The Law Enforcement Rifle Instructor Course is a 5-day, 40-hour course taught as a skills enhancement course for Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors who will be assigned to lead law enforcement rifle instructor courses at their agencies.  The course builds on the skills learned in basic firearms instructor programs while building weapon handling and tactical skills in the participant.  After successfully completing the training course, the participant will receive materials and curriculum license to present the HGTG Basic Rifle Course at his agency.

This course has been approved by the Tennessee POST Commission.

LAW ENFORCEMENT RANGE MASTER

The Range Master Course will prepare the LEFI to manage both a firearms training facility and an agency training program.  This course will include statistics tracking for success, range development and budgeting.  Participants will develop a plan for management of their range facility during the course.

TACTICAL SKILLS

HANDGUN OPTICS AND HANDGUN OPTICS TRAIN-THE-TRAINER                                        NEW COURSE

Performed as a 2-day, 16-hour course including low-light conditions.  This course is designed to introduced the trained officer to the optically sighted duty handgun.  the T3 version prepares the certified LE Firearms Instructor to provide initial and transitional training in the use of handgun optics.

COVERT HANDGUN / CARBINE SKILLS AND TACTICS

Developed at the request of a specialized unit, this course is designed to enhance the skillset of the operator working in an environment where he must remain covert while being able to respond immediately to threats in the operational environment.  The course includes combat handgun tactics, weapon retention, close quarters and intermediate range threat engagement, and working with partners.

ADVANCED HANDGUN AND CARBINE OPERATOR – PHASE I

This series of training involves skill building with handgun and carbine.  Each weapon system is taught in a 2-day event that run in a 4-day series.  While it is taught at the operator level, patrol personnel are encouraged to attend.  Course involves live-fire and force-on-force training.

ADVANCED HANDGUN AND CARBINE OPERATOR – PHASE II

Phase II incorporates the use of low-light environments and builds on the skills learned in Phase I.


MILITARY TRAINING

STRIKER FIRED HANDGUN  – TRAIN-THE-TRAINER

With the introduction of the M-17 and M-18 handguns and the adoption of Glock handguns by some military units, there is a need to provide training in the peculiarities of these reliable weapons.  This T3 program will provide the trainee with a knowledge of the weapon systems and appropriate blending of biomechanics and weapon ergonomics to get the most accuracy from the weapon.

MILITARY DESIGNATED MARKSMAN (MDM)

The Military Designated Marksman Course was our first DM training program.  Originally introduced at the request of a USASOCOM unit, this program was developed for the Warfighter who will be assigned as a designated marksman at the squad or team level.  This course is taught as a contract course for military units and includes both user and train-the-trainer components.

PRE-DEPLOYMENT TACTICAL TRAINING

SPS/HGTG can provide custom pre-deployment training for units moving into theater.  Training will be based on assignment and needs assessment of the client unit.

Hosting for SPS/HGTG Courses 

We are currently accepting hosting requests for 2024
  • Hosting requests must be made to SPS / HGTG prior to six months before the proposed course date.  This is necessary to allow for course promotion and enrollment. 
  • Host agency should be prepared to assist with course promotion in their region.
  • Host agency will be asked to provide a host hotel or list of housing available that will accept government rates.
  • Host agency will receive one free position in the course.  Host agencies scholarship positions are non-transferable.

Enrollment Guidelines

Enrollees in SPS/HGTG Tactical Courses must be a full-time, POST Certified Law Enforcement Officer or Corrections Officer.  

Course enrollment deadlines will be 45-60 days prior to the start of the course, as indicated in the course registration packet.  This is necessary due to supply chain issues in providing materials for courses.  

Course tuition payment will be due by 30 days prior to the start of the course.
